Pets and their Famous Humans

Famous people throughout history have had pets, from movie stars to kings and politicians. Their love and devotion to these four-legged ‘fur babies’ makes celebrities seem a little more like the rest of us. Here is a small sample across history of famous persons and their beloved critters. 

Jared Leto

Actor and sexy leader of the band 30 Seconds to Mars is a very public animal lover. He leads a vegan lifestyle and mourned with his fans on Twitter over the loss of his beloved dog, Sky, in 2012.



Queen Elizabeth II

The British monarch has been a life-long dog fanatic. In many photographs, she appears to be walking in a sea of Corgis. She has owned more than 30 Corgi dogs throughout her life and reign. While some have been gentle, others have been known for biting members of the household, including the Queen herself! 



George Clooney

The handsome star of the silver screen has owned several pets during his life, but one that is most notable was his pet pot-bellied pig, Max.  Max was said to have weighed 300 pounds (136 kg) and he passed away at the age of 18 in 2006.

Adolf Hitler

Despite terrorizing Europe for many years and causing genocide, Hitler surprisingly had a soft spot for animals. He was famously photographed on numerous occasions with his German Shepherd dog, Blondi. She slept in the Fuhrer’s bedroom and Hitler’s wife, Eva Braun, had two Scottish Terriers named Stasi and Negus. 



Frida Kahlo

The artist’s famously furry eyebrows weren’t her only hairy possession. Kahlo and husband Diego Rivera were animal lovers, owning a pet deer, monkeys, exotic birds and dogs.

Justin Bieber

In recent years the popular singer has had several run-ins with the law. In 2013, his pet Capuchin monkey, Mally, was seized upon arrival to Germany. He due to the lack of appropriate import paperwork, Bieber was fined and Mally was re-homed to a German wildlife park. 



Michael Jackson

The King of Pop loved animals so much, he built a ranch, Neverland, for them. His chimpanzee Bubbles was the most well-known, as he accompanied the singer on tour across the globe. After Jackson’s death, Bubbles is living out his life in a Florida wildlife sanctuary.




Paris Hilton

The American socialite made the Chihuahua breed ever more popular after being photographed with her little dog tucked inside of her hand bag. The little pup, named Peter Pan, is often carried through airports dressed to match his Mum as he travels in the lap of luxury.

Freddie Mercury

It was no secret that Queen’s front man was a notorious ‘cat lady’. He was known to call home while on tour just to speak to the cats on the phone. He had 6 cats at one time and even had portraits made of his feline companions.



Morgan Freeman

The famous American actor has a soft spot for horses and owns several. He has established an endowment scholarship at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, which enables many minority students the opportunity to become veterinarians.
